Blogmas day 5: Christmas Playlist
If there is one thing I can usually rely on to fill me with festive spirit, it’s a Christmas song or two. If it’s cheesy and cheerful or mellow and magical, it’s sure to put me in the mood to start digging out the decs … but please just don’t inflict Mariah Carey on my poor ears!!
These are 10 of the best … the songs I’ll most definitely be treating my ears to this festive season:
Fairytale of New York by Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MacColl
The festive season has not truly begun until I have heard this song on the radio (choosing to play it myself does not count!). This is my absolute favourite Christmas song, even though it’s actually a pretty miserable little ditty about a couple having a hangover fuelled tiff
Last Christmas by Wham!
What can I say. I’m a child of the 80s and George and Andy will forever be a part of my Christmas
God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman by Perry Como
Needs no introduction, a pure classic
White Christmas by Andrea Bocelli
He is just ah-may-zing
Stay Another Day by E17
Not really a Christmas song (it was written about Tony Mortimer’s brother who took his own life) but it always makes my Christmas playlist and gives me goosebumps every year.
Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt
She has the most beautiful voice, and just a teeny Christmas Wishlist …
Merry Christmas (I Don’t Wanna Fight Tonight) by The Ramones
Have a punky Christmas everyone!
Do They Know It’s Christmas by Band Aid
Another hangover from the 80s; it just wouldn’t be Christmas without hearing this song
Walking in a Winter Wonderland by Bing Crosby
If you don’t love this song I’m afraid we can’t be friends!
It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas by Michael Buble
I have a guilty little secret … I love Michael Buble. I think he is a lovely person (please don’t tell me otherwise!), he’s gorgeous and he has a fabulous voice, and I don’t care how uncool that makes me, so there!
