The Blurb:

All Anna wants is to be able to sleep.

But paralysing insomnia, terrifying nightmares and memories of that horrific day are making it impossible.  If only she didn’t feel so guilty …

To escape her past, Anna takes a job at a hotel on the remote Scottish island of Rum.  Yet, when seven guests join her what started as a retreat from the world turns into a deadly nightmare.

Each of the guests has a secret, but one of them is lying – about who they are and why they’re there.

There’s a murderer staying in the Bay View Hotel.  And they’ve set their sights on Anna.

Someone’s going to sleep and will never wake up.

My Review

Although I have a couple of CL Taylor’s thrillers on my shelf, this is the first book of hers that I’ve read .. and it won’t be the last.

This is a tense thriller with a good amount of creep factor.  I was pulled into the story immediately (just what I needed during the mother of all reading slumps …) and the action was relentless.  The author throws in a good number of red herrings that make you think you’ve got it all worked it … but alas, you haven’t!  (Well, I hadn’t … but I’m pretty rubbish at spotting the bad egg!).

The pacing is super fast and exhausting.  You can feel Anna’s desperation as sleep doggedly remains just out of reach for her … you’ll need a good night’s sleep yourself by the end of it!  The characters are great – weird and quirky and mysterious … and the suffocating atmosphere was enough to make me think twice about heading to a cosy hotel on a remote Scottish island for my next break!

If  you like a fast paced thriller with twists and turns, a creepy atmosphere and an interesting cast of characters, give this one a try!
