My top 2013 reads

In 2013 I read a total of 42 books (my target was 36, so yay!) - not many compared to some people out there, but not bad going for me!  I know I could read more than this if it weren't for those blasted reading slumps I get into, but I have a plan for this in 2014!

Looking at my Goodreads page, only 4 of these 42 books were 5 star reads for me, and one of those was a re-read ...

The Rose Petal Beach by Dorothy Koomson - loved the tension and sinister undertones in this books.  Dorothy is definitely one of my favourite authors.

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green - this was a book I read solely because I discovered 'book-tubers' and every single one of them loved this book.  It is a YA book, and I bought it for my 14 (15 in 10 days!) year old daughter who read it first and then told me to read it immediately.  I read it, I cried, I loved it. If you haven't read it, you should!

The House We Grew Up In by Lisa Jewell - I received an e-copy of this book from NetGalley for review.  I was expecting a light fluffy read but what I got was a very touching look at mental illness and family dynamics.  Loved it.

The fourth 5 star book was a re-read, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J K Rowling.  I don't think I need say any more about this book.  I am a huge Harry Potter (or rather, Ron Weasley <3 fan.="" p="">

There is one other book that I think I may upgrade from 4 stars to 5 stars.  It definitely deserves an honourable mention!  It is The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes.  This was a fascinating and gripping story involving time travelling, a strange house and a serial killer - what's not to love?!
